Giving back around the world
Walmart’s giving extends across the globe. We give back to communities in the international markets where we operate through locally managed giving programs. We support international philanthropy in the areas of hunger and nutrition, environmental sustainability, women’s economic empowerment and disaster relief.
Last year, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation gave $82.2 million in cash and in-kind donations internationally.
This includes donating more than 23,000 tons of food to hunger relief organizations in Mexico, helping more than 4,000 children battle malnutrition. Walmart Canada donated and raised $3 million to support 1,251 Breakfast Clubs of Canada programs. Learn more about how we give back in every community where we operate around the world.
Global Women's Economic Empowerment
In 2011, Walmart announced the Global Women’s Economic Empowerment Initiative, which seeks to break the cycle of poverty by investing in women. Our philanthropic efforts include empowering women through training and education that increases their earning potential and their opportunities for career advancement. Giving women the tools to become self-sufficient has an incredible impact on their lives, their families and their communities.
While Walmart does not currently accept unsolicited international giving proposals, each international business is encouraged to give back to causes and organizations that are having a positive impact on the issues facing local communities across the globe.
